Featured on AutoHunter is this restored 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1. It is powered by a 429 Cobra Jet with ram air, as signified by the J in the VIN, but this pony car ups the ante with the addition of the Drag Pack, which turns the Cobra Jet into a Super Cobra Jet. Other features include a four-speed manual transmission, Magnum 500 wheels, front and rear spoilers, argent highlights, and more. Painted Bright Blue over a Medium Blue knitted vinyl interior, this Mustang comes with an Elite Marti Report (including a window sticker) and a clear title.
The Bright Blue metallic hue was applied in 2008 when this car was restored. It features argent highlights on the lower body plus the optional side stripes in the same color. When the 429 Cobra Jet with ram air was ordered, the hood was also painted in this matching color. Other features include argent front and rear spoilers, dual racing mirrors, a notched rear valence with dual exhaust pipes, and a body-colored urethane front bumper (standard on Mach 1).
A set of 15-inch Magnum 500 chrome wheels are wrapped in white-letter BFGoodrich T/A radials.
Medium Blue knitted vinyl upholstery covers the high-back front bucket seats and Sport Deck folding rear seat. Interior features include a center console with a Hurst shifter, an AM/FM/8-track stereo, and more.
The instrument panel includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and a gauge for the fuel. Additional gauges for the oil pressure, alternator, and coolant temperature can be found on the center stack. The odometer currently reads 60,046 miles, although the true mileage is unknown.
The engine compartment houses the J-code 429 Cobra Jet engine with the Drag Pack, but the engine block used is a regular CJ version without the four-bolt mains of the original SCJ block. Of course, the Drag Pack includes a carburetor (this one having a dual-feed 750-cfm Holley), mechanical lifters, capscrew connecting rods, a modified crankshaft, and an oil cooler, among other features. The engine is connected to a Toploader four-speed manual.
Underneath, you’ll find a 9-inch rear axle featuring a Detroit Locker rear end that houses 3.55 gears, which have replaced the original 4.11s. Other features include a competition suspension, front disc brakes, staggered rear shocks, and an aluminized dual exhaust system.
