The Pick of the Day is a 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser KZJ73 listed by a South Carolina dealership on ClassicCars.com.
Over the last several decades, U.S.-market Toyota Land Cruisers have grown more powerful and technologically advanced. However, that progress has come at the expense of open-air fun. Sure, the 2024 model has leather seats, a head-up display, and a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism, but you can’t fold down the windshield, take off the top, and let in the great outdoors as you go wheeling. Luckily, enough time has passed that Land Cruisers we never got here in the states, such as this 1995 KZJ73, are now available to us.
According to the selling dealer, they purchased this two-door Land Cruiser from a seller in France, who had it repainted in its original Dark Emerald Pearl paint. Both rows of the Grey Moon Mist cloth interior are covered by a white fiberglass top.
When it’s time to go from paved roads to more challenging terrain, a 1KZ-T 3.0-liter turbodiesel I4 provides the grunt to get over obstacles and sends its output to the ground below through a five-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Headlamp washers are there to keep the lights shining bright and the 31-inch BFGoodrich tires are ready to sling up some mud.
Should the next owner of this Land Cruiser exceed its departure angle, the powder-coated Coastal Offroad rear bumper will take the hit. They’ll be able to quantify how difficult their trek is by reading the altimeter and the pitch and roll gauges mounted above the Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo.
Like other Land Cruisers, this piece of once-forbidden fruit does not come cheap. The dealer is asking $44,980. The double-takes you’ll get on the trail when you pass the drivers of dozens of Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos? Priceless.
