The 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance is being displayed here at the Paris Motor Show, where I got a chance to spend some time exploring its features. The most powerful Model 3 is finished in the ‘Rouge Ultra’ body color, which is the French term for ‘Ultra Red,’ and is priced at 60,680 Euros (USD 66,067) in France.
The new Model 3 Performance, with the improved all-wheel drive system was launched earlier this year. Tesla engineers have also reworked its styling, interior, and suspension to make this version of the Model 3 the high-performance daily driver in the line-up. The company is careful not to use ‘Plaid’ in the branding, reserving it for the extreme versions of the Model X, and Model S.
The 2024 Model 3 Performance has unique visual elements like new front and rear fascias, a spoiler, a front splitter, and a rear diffuser. These aren’t only for show, as they also improve aerodynamics, reducing drag by 5% and lift by 36%, while significantly balancing front-to-rear lift, as per the company.
Inside, the new Model 3 Performance features sport seats with deeper bolstering for better lateral support during hard cornering. The seats, which have special inserts, are electrically powered, heated, and ventilated. Despite my six-foot frame, I felt comfortable in them. Tesla also claims to have improved noise isolation with 360° Acoustic Glass and enhanced body sealing.
Tesla has equipped the 2024 Model 3 Performance with the new Performance 4DU drive unit, which develops 22% more continuous power, 32% more peak power, and 16% more torque than the previous model. The chassis features adaptive dampers, a new stabilizer bar, and high-strength steel springs for enhanced performance.
Paired with staggered 20-inch wheels and Tesla-specific Pirelli P Zero 4 tires, the setup is aimed at offering sharper handling while limiting the effect on the car’s ride quality and range. The Model 3 Performance, with over 500 hp on tap, has a WLTP range of 528 km (328 miles), completes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 262 km/h (163 mph).
Three driving modes, Standard, Sport, and Track, allows the driver to extract the best performance. In Track Mode V3, the system adjusts the powertrain, suspension, and motor controls to set a lap time.
