While the folks at Ram likely won’t tell us what’s new on the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty until fall, we’ve been seeing some spy shots and rumors surface via MoparInsiders. So, we figured we’d dig into the details a bit and talk about what we expect.

Design & tech changes?

The 2025 Ram 1500 got a significant refresh, and we expect to see some of those changes trickle up to the heavy-duty trucks. From the test mules in the spy shots, we can assume there will be grille, headlight and taillight changes, since those are the elements covered with camouflage.

We also expect a tech overhaul as well with an available larger infotainment screen, optional passenger screen, the new Uconnect 5 operating system and the highway hands-free Active Driving Assist system. We also expect to see a power on-board inverter. The 1500 delivers up to 1.8 kilowatts with two covered outlets inside the bed, so we’d be surprised if we didn’t see at least that – but possibly more.

Interior amenities will also see an upgrade, and with the trend toward luxury trucks, we might even see a top-tier Tungsten trim hit the heavy-duty lineup.

2025 Ram Heavy Duty powertrains

The biggest rumor surfacing, however, is about powertrains. The current generation 2500/3500 trucks are available with the 6.7-liter Cummins standard-output turbo diesel (370 horsepower/850 pound-feet of torque), the 6.7-liter Cummins high-output turbo diesel (420 horsepower/1,075 pound-feet of torque) and the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 (410 horsepower/429 pound-feet of torque). According to MoparInsiders, Ram will keep the Hemi as the base powertrain but drop the base standard-output diesel. Furthermore, the high-output version will be tweaked to deliver even more power and torque.

Another big change reported by MoparInsider: The 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup will ditch the current 68RFE and AS6gRC Aisin 6-speed automatic transmissions in favor of the ZF Powerline 8-speed automatic, which is designed specifically for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The benefits: boosted acceleration and increased fuel efficiency with the ability to work harder.

The bottom line

Though the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty won’t get a complete redesign, it will get not only significant changes that increase productivity for a working truck but also some bougie design and tech options.

Ram typically does its “what’s new” reveal in September each year, so we still have a few months to see the official scoop. So, stay tuned for more details around then. In the meantime, what do you want to see on the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty?
