On the eve of the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen revealed the third generation of its small SUV. While we don’t know how much it will cost or when it will be available, here’s what we do know about the 2025 VW Tiguan.
Design gets an overhaul
As you would expect from a next-gen vehicle, the 2025 VW Tiguan gets some design tweaks inside and out. However, don’t expect any drastic changes from this conservatively designed brand. You’ll see slimmer headlights as well as an available LED light bar and logo (the trend created by ID.4). You’ll also see new wheel options, more athletic lines and three new colors (Avocado Green Pearl, Sandstone Uni and Monterey Blue Pearl).
On the inside, you’ll see more premium materials, but the biggest design change will be to the gearshift. It moves to the steering column, which frees ups space for storage on the center console.
Same engine, more power
The 2025 VW Tiguan keeps it 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. But power goes up from 184 horsepower to 201. Additionally, due to the use of aluminum in the suspension and high-strength, hot-formed steel in the body structure, Tiguan loses 170 pounds. That will help with faster acceleration and improved fuel economy. Though we don’t have the estimated numbers for 2025 yet – and won’t until closer to launch – the 2024 model has combined fuel economy numbers that range from 24 MPG to 27 MPG depending on trim and drivetrain.
Infotainment goes next-gen, too
The new generation of VW’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system will be standard, as will a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. The press release makes a point stating there’s a volume knob on the center console (bye, bye volume slider) as well as a drive mode selector. It will also have synchronized ambient lighting and standard wireless charging. Available tech includes a head-up display, a 15-9 inch infotainment screen, 10- or 30-color ambient lighting depending on trim, a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, massaging seats, ventilated seats and three-zone climate control.
More safety is standard
The 2025 VW Tiguan now gets Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive driver assistance tech as standard fare. This includes Travel Assist, forward collision assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and automatic emergency braking. It also adds four new airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag and rear side airbags.
The bottom line
Beyond that we don’t have much more information. The press release says pricing and availability will be announced closer to launch. But we don’t know when that is either. For reference, the base price of the 2024 Tiguan is $30,305. We’ll share more details as we get them.
