The second-gen Volvo XC90 (Hybrid) welcomed its second facelift last September. The new version has been confirmed for the U.S. as a 2025.5 model year vehicle, and is likely to arrive at dealers in Q2 2025 (April-June 2025).

The new Volvo XC90 has a wide range of updates in terms of design and technology, and has been priced at USD 58,450 (MSRP) for the mild-hybrid version, and at USD 73,000 (MSRP) for the plug-in hybrid. Here are the top five improvements in the upcoming hybrid SUV that should excite American buyers.

Contemporary looks

We feel that Volvo’s design studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, has successfully enhanced the XC90’s sophistication, while adding a youthful appeal with the second facelift. Slimmed-down Thor’s Hammer headlights featuring Matrix LED lighting give the 10-year-old design a more striking appearance. A new upper grille with opposite-facing diagonal bars lends the revised model a more upscale styling.

Vertical air curtains in the new bumper and a flatter-looking hood with edgier sculpting leave a more powerful and confident first impression, while a curvy lower air intake and the concave shape of the bumper area above it reinforce its modern look. At the back, darkened combination lamps create a stronger contrast, making the light guide stand out more vividly. While it won’t be to everyone’s taste, we’re quite excited to see what the new XC90 looks like in the Mulberry Red color.

Elegant cabin

The interior of the new Volvo XC90 has subtle improvements and looks more elegant. The dashboard has a more horizontal and contemporary shape and it features new decorative panels made from premium recycled materials. The air vents feature a more polished look, and the ones in the center looks visibly different from the outgoing vehicle due to a slimmer design.

Added practicality

Volvo Cars has changed the design of the XC90’s center console to give customers more practicality. There’s a new, smaller cupholder, located between the two normal cupholders. The company has relocated the wireless phone charger to the front of the center console for more convenience.

New infotainment system

The Volvo XC90 facelift features a new infotainment system with an 11.2-inch free-standing touchscreen. 2.2 inches larger that the current version, the new display is sharper and features a 21% higher pixel density. The new infotainment system displays frequently used apps and controls on the home screen, providing better accessibility and reducing distraction.

Hushed ride

Volvo Cars promises an enhanced ride quality in the XC90 facelift, with new dampers that mechanically adapt to the current road conditions. The updated model’s air suspension monitors the road 500 times per second to adjust itself to the most optimal tuning. Additionally, a new sound deadening material and optional laminated side windows should reduce noise going into the cabin, further improving passenger comfort.
