The Honda Prologue EV, with total sales exceeding 33,000 units, appears to be a hit with customers in the U.S., where it went on sale in April 2024. The third all-electric model from the Japanese automaker in America, following the EV Plus and the Fit EV, is aimed at families looking for a reliable midsize SUV for five people. Here are the reasons why we think that it is proving popular with car buyers:
Strong Brand Reputation
Honda’s reputation precedes its products. In addition to the strong image of Japanese brands in general, the proven track record of gas-powered and hybrid Hondas because of their unbeatable quality, reliability, and practicality certainly instill confidence in Americans to choose the Prologue for their EV.
Conventional Design
Where the Honda Prologue differs from many of its rivals and most EVs even in other segments is its design.
The Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles opted to go for a relatively traditional look, ensuring customers see the Prologue as a simple and humble Honda first and electric second. Barring the low height, there’s nothing out of the ordinary about the way it looks.
Flashy and unconventional designs have become the norm for EVs aiming for a futuristic look. However, this Honda stands out by avoiding the trend and easily blends not just with other Hondas at the dealership, but also with modern cars in traffic.
Functional Interior
This template is applied to the inside, too, and the Prologue is modern yet simpler than many other EVs, focusing more on ease of use than screen sizes.
Large knobs and buttons for essential controls like the infotainment and climate control systems reduce distractions and make operations convenient. Even the steering wheel has regular push-back buttons and toggle switches. The two-tiered center console offers class-leading storage capacity, partly thanks to the column-mounted gear shifter. It features the brand’s first space-saving pocket-type wireless smartphone chargers as standard.
Plenty Of Space
The Honda Prologue offers plenty of space for passengers and their gear. There’s up to 111.7 cu. ft. of passenger volume and up to 25.2 cu. ft. of cargo volume, which buyers can expand to 57.7 cu. ft. by folding the rear seat. The electric midsize SUV offers up to 39.6 in. (front)/38.1 in. (rear) of headroom, 41.4 in. (front)/39.4 in. (rear) of legroom, and 57.6 in. (front)/54.4 in. (rear) of shoulder room.
Competitive Prices
Honda has priced the Prologue competitively and offers a wide range of configurations so that customers don’t have to overspend on features or specifications they do not want. The company sells it in EX, Touring, and Elite grades, at USD 48,975, USD 53,095, and USD 59,295, respectively. The EX and Touring grades come with a USD 3,000 option to upgrade to a dual-motor powertrain, while the Elite grade packs that more advanced system as standard.
