More than 550,000 Ford F-150 trucks were recalled today due to harsh downshifts at any speed.

This recall will affect certain 2014 Ford F-150 trucks.

Ford F-150 Recall

The problem is a lost signal between the transmission Output Speed Sensor (OSS) sensor and the Powertrain Control Computer (PCM) according to a NHTSA.gov safety recall report issued today. There could also be power short to the ground.

“Depending on the vehicle speed at the time of an intermittent OSS failure, an abrupt transmission downshift to first gear could occur. A downshift to first gear without warning could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash,” Ford said in the report.

Owners may also experience a Malfunction Indicator Light. In these cases the OSS signal could recover and the truck may regain normal operation. However, sometimes the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to operate normally.

Ford says owners will be notified by mail to take their truck to a dealer to have the PCM calibration updated. There will be no charge for this service.

Owners who have already paid out of pocket for repairs will be reimbursed according to Ford if those repairs occurred prior to May 2023.

Notifications were sent to dealers on June 18, 2024 and owner notification letters are expected to be sent out beginning July 1, 2024.
