The Tesla Model Y is the gold standard in its segment, but several other automakers are trying to make competitive midsize EVs. In some cases where the rival models were not strong enough originally, model year updates have shown big improvements. Here are six worthy alternatives to the Tesla Model Y refresh, which is expected to arrive in the U.S. in early 2025:

2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a great combination of style, performance, and practicality. With up to 480 horsepower and up to 700 lb.-ft. of torque, the Blue Oval’s pure electric midsize SUV hits 0 to 60 mph as quickly as 3.4 seconds. EPA-estimated range figures are not out yet, but it is expected to travel up to 320 miles like in the previous model year.

Following the MY2025 update with big price cuts of up to USD 4,000, a standard-fit heat pump, a new Sport Appearance package, and enhanced BlueCruise, the Mustang Mach-E has become more attractive than ever before. Prices of the 2025 Mustang Mach-E start at USD 36,495 (excl. USD 1,995 destination and delivery).

2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV

Customers looking for a larger and more spacious alternative to the Tesla Model Y Juniper can consider the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV, priced from USD 44,600 (excl. USD 1,395 DFC). Uniquely available in three drivetrain layouts – FWD, RWD, and AWD, it allows customers to choose their preferred performance and driving dynamics from a wide range of configurations.

A new performance-focused SS AWD configuration hits 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, while an enhanced RS RWD configuration delivers an EPA-estimated range of 334 miles, marking an improvement of 10 miles over the previous model year.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the most futuristic-looking Tesla Model Y rival. Facelifted for the 2025 model year with revisions like a subtly refreshed design, new off-road-focused XRT trim (pictured above), NACS port, bigger battery packs (63.0 kWh and 84 kWh), new HVAC controls, an all-new infotainment system, and new safety and convenience features, it is now a more compelling choice in this segment.

Assembled now in the U.S., the Ioniq 5 takes as little as 20 minutes for a 10-80% fast-charging session and is expected to deliver an EPA-estimated range of up to 318 miles. An available high-performance N variant, imported from South Korea, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and clocks a top speed of 162 mph.

2025 Kia EV6

Also facelifted for the 2025 model year and locally assembled, the Kia EV6 is the corporate cousin of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. A more striking exterior, a revised interior design, an all-new infotainment system, bigger battery packs (63 kWh and 84 kWh), and a NACS port are some of the key updates for MY2025.

Charging from 10 to 80% takes as little as 20 minutes and on a full charge, this model is expected to go up to 319 miles. A high-performance GT trim, imported from South Korea, zooms from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and can accelerate up until 161 mph.

2025 Honda Prologue

The Honda Prologue is closely related to the Chevrolet Blazer EV but features a relatively conventional and more humble design. Unlike the latter, it does offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, both wirelessly.

Available in FWD and AWD drivetrain layouts, the Japanese model packs features like 21-inch wheels, handsfree power tailgate, heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustment for the driver, a head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and Honda Sensing ADAS suite. It is expected to deliver an EPA-estimated range of around 300 miles and retail at around USD 47,500 (excl. destination charges) in the base trim.

2025 Acura ZDX

Based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Honda Prologue, the Acura ZDX is a luxury alternative to the Tesla Model Y refresh. With features like adaptive air suspension, 16-way front seats with power lumbar, thigh extension, and side bolsters, heated (outboard) rear seats, a tri-zone automatic climate control system, and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, it promises better comfort and entertainment than its corporate cousin from Honda.

The 2025 ZDX accelerates from 0 to 60 mph as quickly as 4.3 seconds and is expected to deliver an EPA-estimated range of up to around 315 miles. Prices should start at approximately USD 65,000 (excl. destination charges).
