A few tasty preview offerings in advance of Bonhams|Cars' Goodwood Members' Meeting sale taking place April 14th

Chichester, Sussex – Commencing the much-anticipated 2024 UK auction season, Bonhams|Cars will return to the prestigious Goodwood Members’ Meeting for its annual sale scheduled for 14 April 2024. The event promises an exciting lineup featuring revered British marques such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Jaguar with timeless treasures from Lagonda and MG presented throughout. Offerings from Ferrari, Mercedes, and Porsche will be featured in this year’s lineup with their legendary performance and undeniable prestige.

A true supercar of its day, the 1936 Lagonda LG45 Rapide Tourer is one of few 1930s automobiles capable of comfortably exceeding 100mph. One of only 25 built (24 surviving) and having remained in present family ownership since 1958, as confirmed by the two old-style logbooks on file, ‘12170/R’ was professionally restored in the early 1990s by marque specialist Cedar Classics (Derek Green and David Ayre). With so few made, ‘12170/R’ represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire an original and well documented example of one these fabulous cars.

The pinnacle of Bentley’s achievements in the post-war era, the 1954 Bentley R-Type 4.9-Litre Continental Sports Saloon was developed by Rolls-Royce stylist John Blatchley in collaboration with coachbuilder H J Mulliner. One of only 208 produced, ‘BC38D’ is presented in its original color scheme and has been used sparingly in recent years, having undergone extensive mechanical refurbishment completed in 2014.

One of only ten rare and ultra-exclusive “Crown Edition” made, this 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ‘Crown Edition’ Coupé offered without reserve, was picked from the production line and upgraded with 722-specification parts, including the uprated and modified engine, carbon fibre aerodynamic parts, stiffer dampers, and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The Crown Edition was truly a 722 in all but name. Finished in white with Silver Arrow red leather interior, it comes from single-ownership and benefits from a recent recommissioning.

Arguably as close to the real 450LM Coupe that anyone will ever get, this 1954 Bristol 450 Le Mans Two-seat Sports Car World Championship-Racing Aerodyne Recreation Coupé was built with painstaking attention to detail, with costs totaling close to £275,000. After tremendous, and ingenious, research and 3D digital imaging the supremely elegant and visually startling aerodynamic bodywork was recreated over a two-year period, hand-crafted again in aluminium and finished in the closest possible shade of ‘grass green’ to the 1954-55 original.

Another inarguable icon of British racing history, this 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 MkI Rally Car was the first Austin-Healey 3000 off the production line. ‘2754 DK’ has an illustrious in-period competition history including the 1960 Tulip Rally, 1960 Alpine Rally, 1960 Liege-Rome-Liege Marathon, and 1960 RAC Rally.
