Around the country there are various kinds of automotive museums. You’ve probably heard of the big like The Petersen, The Henry Ford, and the Corvette Museum. Then there are smaller museums such as The Saratoga and the Larz Anderson museums. However, in between, there is a section of museums that aren’t as grand as the biggest but are a literal treasure trove of extremely rare and collectible automobiles. One of these that is a true must-see is the Maine Classic Car Museum in Arundel, Maine.

The museum first opened in July 2019, but has made a huge impression on both visitors and on the concours scene. Cars from the collection have won awards at events including Amelia Island, Greenwich, Misselwood, and Radnor Hunt. There is literally no museum on the East Coast of the United States where you can see as many amazing and rare cars as at the Maine Classic Car Museum.

The museum features everything from a 1915 Ford Model T all the way to a Ferrari F2001 Formula 1 car.

One of the specialties of the museum are its collection of Woodies, which include the absolute rarest of these hand crafted cars on display. Some of these are a Chrysler “Barrelback”, a Ford Marmon Harrington, and a very rare Nash Woodie.

The stars of the museum, though, are a large number of coach-built and limited production cars including a 1936 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS, the 1957 Chrysler Superdart 400, and a 1954 Chrysler GS1 by Ghia. As an added bonus none of the cars are behind ropes or barricades and can be viewed (but not touched, thank you) as close as you like.

The museum is located off of I-95 just over the state line between New Hampshire and Maine, and they are open all year from 10AM-5PM every day.

So if you want to see a truly special auto museum make sure to put a trip to Maine on your next vacation and see this amazing museum in person.
