Created by a design student, this AMG ONE+ ONE concept takes AMG’s F1 powered hypercar to the year 3025.
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen a new concept car from Mercedes. We’ve had the EQXX as a working concept recently, but we like seeing concepts that are a bit out of this world. This ONE+ ONE concept quenches that thirst. While this one doesn’t come from Mercedes directly, this concept gives us that injection of sci-fi that we want as we found on AutoEvolution.
Made by a German design student, Hyunsik Moon, we get an idea of what an AMG ONE would look like with a radical re-think. The big story here isn’t so much the radical styling, but instead is the dual-driver setup. Either seat in the two-seater coudl be the drivers seat. “Alpha” or “Beta” modes mean either left or right hand drive.
This is accomplished by a steering column that switches sides. And maybe with a little bit of inspiration from the McLaren F1, whom ever is the passenger, well, their seat moves aft to give the driver a forward commanding position. Or, either driver could sit back and relax as the car drives autonomously.
Powertrain changes aren’t mentioned but one unique feature is in the headlights. Or at least what appears to be headlights. Those circular contraptions at the front? They’re batteries. Once you’ve drained them, they can be swapped out for fresh ones. A little different from the plug-in hybrid system of the AMG ONE, but perhaps this ONE+ ONE is all EV powered.
Exterior styling is definitely worth a mention as well. “Double-bubble” doesn’t quite describe what we have going on here. Dual cockpit might be more accurate, with a partition that separates the occupants. And that division of the car goes all the way through to the rear of the car.
The closest this will get to reality is a small scale clay model. And that’s OK. Sometimes it’s fun to have these hyper futuristic concepts every now and then so we can dream about what we’d want in a car. And you never know what styling features will end up on future models.
