Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30 coupe.

The Olds 4-4-2 is a legend in the muscle car world and one of the most well known muscle cars ever to wear the Oldsmobile badge. For certain models, the name 4-4-2 comes from the fact that the car has a four-barrel carb, a four-speed transmission, and dual exhaust. Originally, it was an option on the Oldsmobile Cutlass, but it became its own model – still based on the Cutlass – in 1968. For those of you who might notice that the car shown here is listed as a 4-4-2, be aware that the early cars wore 4-4-2 badging with dashes between the numbers, which changed in 1968 to the badges just being 442 with no dashes. Despite this change, the advertising for these cars still listed them as a 4-4-2s, which is why I included the dashes in this listing.

There were various options for the 4-4-2, including the Hurst/Olds and the W-30, which this car is an example of. The W-30 option added forced air induction and gave the car 360 horsepower. This made a quick car even quicker; Car Life magazine recorded a 13.3-second quarter mile time in a road test.

The seller describes this 1969 4-4-2 W-30 as being powered by a rebuilt 455ci V8 backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The car comes from the selling dealer with a car cover, owner’s and service manuals, and a clear title.

The exterior of the car is dressed in black paint with white hood stripes and chrome wheel opening moldings and features a correct rear wing. The paint and body appear to be in nice condition with no serious flaws or issues. This W-30 rides on 15-inch American Racing wheels clad in 235/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

The interior is finished in red vinyl that is reported to be original and features bucket seats, an aftermarket wood steering wheel, and an AutoMeter tach mounted on the column. It also has a floor-mounted Hurst shifter and aftermarket pedal pad covers. The photos show an interior that looks to be in excellent shape with no issues.

Gauges include a 120-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm factory tach, fuel gauge, and dash-mounted Sunpro readouts for the temp and oil pressure.

Under the hood, the standard 400ci engine has been replaced with a 455ci V8 that features a single four-barrel carb with an aluminum intake manifold, forced air induction, MSD electronic ignition, and chrome Edelbrock valve covers. The 455 engine is said to have been rebuilt in 2019 and has covered 2,000 miles since then.

The 4-4-2 is a great muscle car and this car, though not completely original due to the engine swap, is likely even quicker than when it was stock. Without a doubt, it would be a fun car to drive and take to local car shows.
