Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 29k-Mile One-Owner 2000 Honda S2000 Convertible.

Many people think the “2000” in the Honda S2000 roadster’s name came from the fact that it debuted in model year 2000. Honda says that the name in fact came from the 2,000cc (or 2.0-liter) displacement of its high-revving VTEC inline-four engine. The S2000, after all, was a spiritual successor to the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s – all of which bore names that were derived from their engine sizes. This first-year, low-mileage S2000 is being listed for sale by its original owner, and the auction will end on Monday.

The S2000 (or, as some enthusiasts call it, the “S2K”) was a front-engine, rear-wheel drive, naturally aspirated roadster. It enjoyed a ten-year lifespan that was split into two iterations. Each variant is known by its chassis code: “AP1” (2000 through 2003) or “AP2” (2004 through 2009).

Today’s featured car is a relatively early-build AP1 car, displaying a VIN ending in sequence 000333 for the first model year. In fact, the car underwent pre-delivery inspection in late 1999 according to its CARFAX report. The first owner – its current seller – was noted as taking delivery on February 1, 2000. Nearly 25 years later, that owner is finally letting go of this canyon-carving machine.

The odometer shows just 29,800 miles, and the car is said to be original and unmodified. Anyone who has browsed for S2000s in recent years is well aware that is getting to be incredibly tough to find a car with that kind of credentials in the S2000 marketplace. Adding to the allure are a few subtle upgrades like a Silverstone Metallic color-matched OEM front lip, rear side skirts, a titanium shift knob, and an OEM car cover to top it all off.

From its inception, the S2000 was engineered to give a motorcycle-inspired driving experience. Even the gauge cluster was compact and simple, consisting of a simple digital speedometer readout and a bar-style tachometer showing revs all the way to 9,500 rpm. The car was advertised as “The Product of 22 years of Formula One Racing.” And indeed, the car loved to rev. AP1 models such as this one redline at 9,000 rpm, and AP2 models (which received a reengineered 2.2-liter engine) redline at 8,200 rpm.

There are still plenty of top-down summer days left in 2024, so click over to AutoHunter to bid. You might just snag yourself an incredibly clean S2K.
