Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2005 Cadillac XLR.

The Cadillac XLR is a fascinating car. Unlike the Allante, which Cadillac released a couple of decades earlier, the XLR is an amazing design drawn by my friend Kip Wasenko, making full use of the strongest parts of the Cadillac design language, all in a luxury GT car package.

The stunning body of the XLR has great underpinnings as well, utilizing the chassis of the C6 Corvette. In fact, the XLR was built alongside the C6 Corvette at GM’s Bowling Green, Kentucky factory.

The issue it had at the time is that it had a price tag very close to those of the Mercedes SL500 and Jaguar XK8, which caused many buyers to choose the Europeans instead of the new American offering.

That is a shame because the XLR is a great GT car and pretty rare, with only 15,460 total cars built. In my eyes, this makes the XLR a future collector car and one to buy now and enjoy over the next decade as prices go up.

Today’s AutoHunter Spotlight car is a 2005 Cadillac XLR, which is powered by a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 mated to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. It is finished in the stunning color of Satin Nickel over a Shale leather interior and is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean CARFAX report and clear title. The car has covered approximately 92,000 miles since new.

The paint appears to be in excellent shape, with no flaws except for a few minor chips in the front bumper.

The interior looks wonderful and has been well cared for. It features Shale leather upholstery, heated and cooled eight-way power-adjustable seats, and Eucalyptus wood trim.

These cars came completely loaded and had available features missing from many top-tier cars from Europe. These include adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, GPS navigation, and gauges designed by Bulgari.

The XLR is powered by 4.6-liter Northstar V8 with 320 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 310 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. This gives the car plenty of power to cross the country at high speed with its passengers in first-class comfort.

These cars are a great value right now, but if you want one, get it sooner rather than later before the rest of the world wakes up.

The auction for this 2005 Cadillac XLR ends on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11:45 a.m. (PDT).
