The Donington Historic Festival is set to return to Donington Park circuit on May 4–5 with a packed racing timetable
The weekend of May 4–5 will see the return of the Donington Historic Festival, one of the biggest historic racing events in the UK. Multiple races across both days will see cars from the 50s through to the early 2000s take to the track in wheel-to-wheel action, as well as in a series of track displays and parades.
Saturday, May 4 kicks off with qualifying for the afternoon’s races, including the RAC Woodcote Trophy & Stirling Moss Trophy for pre-1956 and pre-1961 sports cars and the Historic Touring Car Challenge. The Sixties Touring Car Challenge will also take place on Saturday, along with the Superformance Ferrari Club Classic and RAC Pall Mall Cup for pre-1966 GT and Touring Cars, pre-1963 GTs and pre-1961 sports cars.
Sunday, May 4 will see the same morning/afternoon split for the HDRC Gerry Marshall Trophy Series for pre-1983 Group 1 and Group 1½ touring cars, the pre-1963 GT race and the HRDC Dunlop All Stars race featuring pre-1966 sports, GT and Touring cars. The latter also includes the HRDC Classic Alfa Challenge.
The fan-favourite ‘Mad Jack’ race for pre-war sports cars also returns, while the Superformance Ferrari Club Classic will get its second race on the Sunday. The final race of the weekend will be the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy for 1958-1966 touring cars; a fitting finale sure to cause excitement with its combination of V8 muscle taking on lightweight Mini Coopers and Lotus Cortinas.
Displays and parade highlights set for the weekend include the 2003 Bentley Speed 8 and 2000 EXP Speed 8 Le Mans GT, along with a tribute Honda NSX parade in tribute to Aryton Senna. The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will also conduct flypasts with its Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft on each afternoon.
Elsewhere, live Q&A sessions will let visitors hear from a number of famous motorsport faces, while an open-access paddock will let enthusiasts get up close and personal with historic racing cars of all ages.
