When the Ford Maverick hit the scene in 2021, the folks at Ford Motor Co. watched how owners modified this petite truck. So, with the launch of the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick, the automaker decided to do something a little crazy: modify the truck before owners could. Inspired by lowered trucks that hit the scene in the 1980s and a special Maverick build by Tucci Hot Rods, Ford is introducing the performance-tuned Maverick Lobo street truck.

Technically, Ford views this as another trim in the Maverick lineup. However, there are significant modifications and a price boost to match. Here’s what we know about the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo.

Gas + AWD powertrain

The hybrid won’t be available on the Maverick Lobo street truck, nor will there be a front-wheel drive option. The only powertrain is the 2.0-liter EcoBoost that delivers 238 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. It does, however, get a unique transmission: a 7-speed Quick Shift that includes a set of paddle shifters.

Performance-tuning

In addition to lowering the suspension by 0.5 inch in the front and 1.12 inches in the rear, the Maverick Lobo gets a host of performance perks that are geared toward making this more fun to drive. Think tuned steering, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front brake calipers and torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit. There’s also a new Lobo drive mode, which turns off stability control and improves cornering performance, grip and stability.

Maverick Lobo unique design

Like the other trims in the Maverick lineup, the Maverick Lobo gets a unique grille and front fascia. Other exterior features that set this truck apart are the painted rear bumper, contrast black roof and 19-inch black wheels. On the inside, you see leatherette seating surfaces with Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching.

Two configurations

The Maverick Lobo is essentially a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) with two configurations: Standard and High. Standard gets the unique design and performance features at a more basic level, and the High configuration adds comfort features like heated steering wheel, heated front seats, 360-degree camera, CoPilot360 2.0 safety features, moon roof and spray in bed liner. Beginning in early 2025, the High configuration will also get Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.

Top-tier pricing

The base price of the Maverick now starts at $27,890, including destination, and yeah, the Maverick Lobo is more than that. A lot more. The Standard configuration will start at $36,595 and the High configuration starts at $42,090. Order books open today for the High configuration, but the Standard books won’t open until late 2024. Deliveries for both will begin in early 2025.

The bottom line

As street cars start to go away, we guess street trucks are the next hot thing. Maybe. We do like the looks of the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo, but we don’t love the price. We’ll be curious to see what the take rate is for this new offering.
