Three years into its lifecycle the compact Ford Maverick gets a refresh. This little truck has been so popular, Ford Motor Co. can’t seem to build enough of ‘em, and it gets even better for the upcoming model year. So, here’s a quick look at some of the big changes for the 2025 Ford Maverick.
Hybrid + AWD
Perhaps the biggest news about the 2025 Ford Maverick is that you can now get the hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Previously, this powertrain was only available with front-wheel drive. The 2.5-liter engine remains, but it is retuned to deliver a targeted 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. This means the max towing capacity for the hybrid goes up to 4,000 pounds with the 4K towing package.
You’ll be able to get the hybrid AWD option XL, XLT and Lariat trims, but not the Tremor.
Design tweaks
On the exterior, the biggest change is going to be to the front of the vehicle. You have a redesigned grille, front bumper and headlights. Higher trims get LED projector headlights as well as LED daytime running lights. The grills are unique across the trims.
You’ll also see new paint colors, like Eruption Green and new interior accent colors. Plus, there’s a new Black Package with its own grille, black roof, black Ford badges and 19-inch gloss black wheels.
New tech
On the inside, the biggest (literally) change you’ll see is the new 13.2-inch infotainment screen. This replaces the previous 8-inch screen and is paired with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. The 2025 Ford Maverick also upgrades to the Sync 4 infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ford is also bringing the 360-camera to Maverick. It will be standard on Lariat and Tremor.
Maverick also gets a new 5G modem for over-the-air (OTA) updates, and Ford says that even though a wi-fi hotspot will require a subscription, OTA updates are free.
Pro Trailer Assist features
We’ve seen Ford’s Pro Tailer Assist features on the automaker’s bigger trucks, and now they work their way down to the petite 2025 Ford Maverick. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist uses the rear camera and corner radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler while controlling the truck’s speed, steering and braking to stop in the right place. Pro Trailer Backup Assist uses a knob to indicate which direction the trailer should go while reversing into position.
Both features are new standard features on Lariat and Tremor trims.
Hybrid is base for 2025 Ford Maverick
When Maverick first entered the scene in 2021, the hybrid was the least expensive model. But pretty quickly, the hybrid became the premium model costing about $1,500 more than the gasoline-engined versions. But for 2025, the front-wheel-drive hybrid is back to being the base model at (gulp) $27,890, including destination. That’s $2,375 more than the current base price (with the 2024 XL gas FWD model coming in at $25,515). Interestingly, however, this is only $875 more than the current 2024 XL hybrid FWD model. So, while the base price is a lot more from 2024 to 2025, the hybrid price change is minimal. It’s that gas model price that has skyrocketed.
Order books for the 2025 Ford Maverick open on Aug. 1, 2024, and deliveries are set to begin in late 2024.
The bottom line
While the 2025 Ford Maverick isn’t drastically different – this is just a refresh afterall – the changes Ford made enhance the truck. You’ve got more powertrain options, cooler color options and an excellent infotainment system complete with super large screen.
