Mercedes has unveiled the cabrio version of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic, which, like the coupe, has the 3.0-litre 449 hp turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and integral steering under the bonnet.

The top version of the CLE Cabrio is called the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ and is equipped with the latest evolution of the 3-litre turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine bearing the M256M designation.

It features a larger turbine with increased boost pressure from 1.1 to 1.5 bar, an electric compressor that ensures sufficient engine torque at start-up before the turbine starts up, and a second-generation mild hybrid system with integrated 23 PS and 205 Nm starter generator that also have propulsion function. The system delivers 449 PS and a maximum torque of 560 Nm (600 Nm with overboost for up to 10 seconds.

The engine is mated to the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic transmission, variable all-wheel drive, and integral steering. The rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels by 2.5 degrees up to 100 kph, and from 100 kph upwards, they steer in the same direction at an angle of 0.7 degrees.

AMG Ride Control suspension is also standard, and suspension can be adjusted in Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes. The variable all-wheel drive system can transmit power up to 100% to the rear when driving moderately, and if ESP is engaged in Sport mode, torque is distributed predominantly to the rear axle. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ also features Drift mode, in which the torque is distributed 100% to the rear axle.

The optionally available AMG Dynamic Plus package includes additional Race mode and Race Star function.

The multi-layer soft top is available in black, red, or grey and opens or closes in just 20 seconds at speeds up to 60 kph. For the first time, it is fully electrically operated, with no hydraulic actuation, making it extremely quiet. The boot volume varies between 285 liters with the roof open, and 375 liters, while the rear bench is 40/60% splittable.
