The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is going through the final stages of testing before it hits production, virtually unchanged to the concept.

A Bold New Chapter: Introducing the Mythos Series

Mercedes-AMG has embarked on an ambitious journey with its newly launched Mythos series, a lineup of ultra-exclusive models designed to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike. The first vehicle in this series is the striking PureSpeed, a roadster that reimagines the iconic SL by removing its roof and windshield, leaving a car that is both a technical marvel and a head-turner. The PureSpeed’s unique aesthetic was first unveiled at a private event in Monaco in May, and it has since entered its final testing phase on public roads.

Final Testing

Recent sightings of the PureSpeed reveal the roadster in action, undergoing extensive testing across a variety of road conditions in northern Italy. Despite its appearance as a heavily modified SL, Mercedes-AMG is putting the PureSpeed through its paces with a rigorous test program that spans over 1,864 miles.

Taking to the Streets of Northern Italy

The testing will continue at the legendary Nardo track, where the car’s high-speed capabilities will be fine-tuned. This intense process ensures that the PureSpeed will deliver an unparalleled driving experience when it reaches the hands of its select owners.

Design Heritage

The PureSpeed’s design is heavily influenced by motorsport, most notably through the inclusion of a Formula 1-inspired Halo system. This curved bar, fixed to the car’s body, is designed to provide protection in case of an accident.

A Nod to Racing Legends

While the design choice is primarily functional, it also adds to the roadster’s distinctive appearance, reminiscent of past racing icons. Mercedes-AMG has ensured that safety is paramount, equipping the vehicle with two aerodynamically optimized helmets that complement the Halo system.

Blending Tradition with Modernity

Inside, the PureSpeed largely retains the interior features of the standard SL, with a few bespoke touches to enhance its exclusivity. The cabin is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch infotainment system, ensuring that modern technology is at the driver’s fingertips. Additionally, a dashboard-mounted clock by IWC Schaffhausen adds a touch of traditional luxury to the high-tech interior, underscoring the vehicle’s status as a collector’s item.

A Car for Connoisseurs

In keeping with its exclusive nature, Mercedes-AMG plans to produce only 250 units of the PureSpeed. This limited availability ensures that the roadster remains a rare and coveted piece of automotive art. The company has stated that these vehicles will only be available to the most dedicated Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors, solidifying its status as a must-have for those with a passion for unique driving machines. By partnering with Pininfarina, a renowned specialist in low-volume production, Mercedes-AMG has ensured that the PureSpeed is crafted to the highest standards of quality and performance.
