- Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the AMG PureSpeed during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
- The roadster features an open-top design inspired by the three-pointed star marque’s rich motorsport heritage.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team may have failed to bag the top three spot in the Constructors Championship. Still, its engine partner, McLaren Mercedes, emerged as the champion in this category.
Alongside this milestone, Mercedes-Benz also unveiled the AMG PureSpeed during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The new product from the exclusive Mythos series features an open-top and two-seater configuration inspired by the three-pointed star marque’s motorsport DNA.
The PureSpeed is only limited to 250 units. It serves as a tribute to Mercedes’ storied racing legacy with a form echoing the design language of iconic racing cars while blending modern technology.
Dynamic Design
The PureSpeed’s design takes cues from the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar. It offers a low, aerodynamic silhouette, a prominent shark-nose front, and dynamic carbon fiber accents. The vehicle’s aerodynamically optimized bonnet and unique air deflectors minimize turbulence, enhancing driving comfort despite the open design.
These are topped off by 21-inch forged aluminum wheels with carbon
fiber covers. These were designed to optimize airflow and reduce
drag.
Meanwhile, the HALO safety system, inspired by F1, replaces the traditional A-pillar, offering protection while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency. The ambient LED lighting on the HALO adds a touch of sophistication to the vehicle’s aura.
Power and Precision
Beneath the hood lies an AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The power unit delivers up to 430 kW (585 PS) and 800 Nm of torque.
The powertrain propels the PureSpeed from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6
seconds, reaching a top speed of 315 km/h. The engine’s sound,
amplified by the open cabin, enhances the visceral driving
experience.
The PureSpeed also features the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission
and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive to ensure optimal
traction and stability in all driving conditions. These are
reinforced by active aerodynamics, including an extendable rear
spoiler and Venturi-effect elements.
Interior Design
The interior design reflects Mercedes-AMG’s meticulous attention to detail, with a two-tone crystal white and black color scheme. Heated AMG Performance seats provide superior lateral support, while a custom IWC Schaffhausen analog clock and a Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System elevate luxury to new heights.
Paying homage to Mercedes’ motorsport legacy, elements like the scoops behind the seats and the exclusive Silver Arrow finish in mystic silver magno recall legendary racing victories. Optional styling packages, including historic racing liveries, further connect the PureSpeed to its rich heritage.
Innovative Engineering
Built on an aluminum space frame, the PureSpeed combines lightweight construction with rigidity, enabling precise handling. Features like AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, a ceramic composite braking system, and active rear-axle steering deliver unparalleled agility and stability, whether navigating tight corners or cruising at high speeds.
