Mercedes-AMG has decided to reorganize its motorsport division by establishing a new subsidiary called Affalterbach Racing GmbH, which will handle all of AMG’s motorsport activities. At the same time, Mercedes-AMG plans to acquire a stake in partner HWA AG.

Mercedes-AMG has decided to reorganize its motorsport division. To this end, Mercedes-AMG has established the division Affalterbach Racing GmbH, which will be responsible for all conceptual and technical customer sport activities of AMG, including the development of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be based on the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT.

As its name suggests, Affalterbach Racing GmbH will also be based in Affalterbach and will work in close cooperation with the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport team.

Mercedes-AMG is the only manufacturer not to have an official team in the GT3 championships, with only customer cars. From the Mercedes press release, we understand that this strategy will not change.
“The first project to bring together this extensive technical expertise is to develop the successor model to the Mercedes-AMG GT3. This new concept is intended to continue the success story of AMG’s international Customer Racing Program,” the Mercedes press release announces.

Mercedes-AMG is also discussing with its traditional partner HWA AG to take over the HWA customer motorsport division. Both companies have signed a non-binding term sheet and are in the approval phase.

HWA AG was established in 1999 by one of the three founders of AMG, Hans Werner Aufrecht, bearing his initials, and handled part of Mercedes-AMG’s motorsport activities.
HWA AG thus managed Mercedes-AMG’s activities in DTM, Formula E, Formula 2 and Formula 3. HWA AG was also responsible for the production of the Mercedes-AMG CLK-GTR street version. Most recently, HWA AG has created a modern version of the Mercedes 190 Evo II called the HWA EVO, which will be produced in a limited series of only 100 examples.
