Mercedes will launch the third-generation Mercedes CLA in 2025, based on the new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform, which was developed primarily for electric propulsion but can also be adapted for hybrid propulsion. The electric Mercedes CLA EV will debut in 2025, followed by the hybrid version in 2026.

The MMA platform uses 800V technology and allows a charging power of up to 250 kW. This will charge 400 km in just 15 minutes.

The battery with NMC chemistry will offer a capacity of up to 90 kWh. Thanks to its very good aerodynamics, the Mercedes CLA EV will have low energy consumption, giving it a WLTP range of over 750 km. At a later stage, the Mercedes CLA EV will also feature bidirectional charging.

The powertrain is taken from the Vision EQXX concept and will have power outputs ranging from 150 kW (204 PS) to 400 kW (544 PS), as there will also be an AMG version. The AMG version will have a Mercedes-AMG GT-style spoiler but it is not yet known whether it will be fixed or movable.

The production version will take over many of the elements of the Mercedes CLA concept unveiled at the Munich Motor Show in the fall of 2023. Thus, the brand’s logo will be found in the taillights, while the interior will keep the wide, full-width display solution featuring three screens: for the virtual instrument cluster, the multimedia system, and the passenger.

The production model will also take on the proportions of the concept, and Mercedes unveiled the first images at the Festival d’Hyeres fashion festival.

The mild hybrid version is coming in 2026 with a four four-cylinder thermal engine

About a year after the launch of the electric version, the Mercedes CLA will also be available in a hybrid version (codename C178). This is based on a new 48V mild hybrid engine (codenamed M252) that will be developed by Mercedes and produced by Mercedes Powertrains in China in a new plant being built with Geely. It will then be used in various Volvo models.
