One of only 350 examples of the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series Black Mercedes SLS AMG produced is offered at a Sotheby’s auction in Munich on November 23, 2024. Painted in the Magno Alanite Grey color, it is just one of ten examples in this shade.
Unveiled in the fall of 2012 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series is a performance version of the SLS AMG Coupe, being derived from the SLS AMG GT3. The official launch color was Solarbeam Yellow, but the example offered at Sotheby’s auction on November 23, 2024, in Munich, is painted in the magno Alanite Grey, being only one in ten examples in this shade.
In contrast to the production model, the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series is 70 kg lighter thanks to the more extensive use of carbon fiber in the body elements and space frame structure, the realization of the exhaust system in titanium instead of steel, and the use of a Li-Ion battery.
The 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine was modified, developing 631 PS/7,400 rpm compared to 571 PS in the production model, and the maximum rev reached 8,000 rpm, while the maximum torque was 635 Nm/5,500 rpm. The 6.2-liter V8 engine was the most powerful naturally aspirated powerplant at the time.
The AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed gearbox was mounted 10 mm lower to lower the center of gravity, the rear locking differential had a shorter gear ratio, and the AMG Ride Control suspension was firmer. The car is equipped with the optional AMG Aerodynamics Package with a fixed adjustable carbon fiber rear aerofoil and aditional carbon-fiber wing on the front apron.
The model offered at auction was delivered on February 4, 2013, and remained in Daimler AMG’s possession until April 2015, being used as a demo model. In April 2015, the car was purchased by a customer in Boblingen, with only 13,425 km on board. Since then, it was used very rare and now the odometer reads 14,996 km. The car was recently TUV certified in July 2024.
Sotheby auction house estimate a sale price between 625.000 and 725,00 euros. The new price in 2013 was 249,900 euros.
