Mitsubishi Motors is gearing up for its Golden Jubilee Tour with 50 places for owners of interesting and classic models

A series of special events are set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK. The biggest of these will be the Golden Jubillee Tour on September 21, with 50 Mitsubishi cars in attendance spanning each of the brand’s five decades in Britain.

Mitsubishi’s Golden Jubilee Tour is to start at the brand’s UK base in Watermoor, Cirencester, and will finish at Badminton House in Gloucestershire, home to the famous Badminton Horse Trials – an event that has been sponsored by Mitsubishi for the past 25 years. The rally will be started by Jack Morris-Marsham, one of the founders of The Colt Car Company and former managing director and vice chairman.

A large number of applications for the Tour have already been received but Mitsubishi is encouraging more, especially from owners of rarer models like the Mitsubishi Lonsdale and Tredia, or cars that ‘combine an interesting or special customer or vehicle story’.

A number of Mitsubishi’s 110 dealers in the UK will stage local celebrations, with the aim to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and British Red Cross.

The Colt Car Company was founded by David Blackburn in 1974 to import and sell Mitsubishi Motors cars and commercial vehicles in a joint venture with the Mitsubishi Corporation. The company soon became a major car brand in the UK with 30,000–40,000 unit sales per year, but vehicle sales eventually stopped in 2021. Today, Mitsubishi Motors maintains a strong aftersales presence under International Motors ownership.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed that a new car club to celebrate The Colt Car Company and Mitsubishi Motors in the UK will be launched at the NEC Classic Car Show later this year, where a five-car stand will feature a range of classic models. Stephen Blackburn, son of Colt Car Company founder David Blackburn, is at the helm of the new club.
