A press release was just released stating that there will be nearly 100k 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra recalled along with Lexus LX models as well.
2022-2023 Toyota Tundra Recalled
The press release says:
There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.
According to various forums and Facebook groups, there have been many reports of a spun engine bearing issue with the engine. This bearing can lead to a complete engine failure and many suspect this recall is related to that issue.
Interestingly, Toyota is stating the recall will impact conventional gasoline models only and not the hybrid powertrains.
At this time, the company also states they are developing a remedy for this issue and will update owners once that information is available.
There’s an official document below that lays out the details on the information so far.
This is a big recall for Toyota considering they sold 125,185 Toyota Tundra trucks last year and 36,215 in the first quarter of 2024. Those are a mix of hybrid and gasoline trucks. Lexus LX sales total less than 3,000 vehicles since the beginning of 2023.
With this being a recall, all the affected trucks should be inspected and any repairs like a complete engine replacement will be covered.
A Facebook post showed the repair bill for a new engine at around $30,000 total. You’ll find pics of the parts list without labor. The labor totaled $6,500.
An official NHTSA recall notice should be issued in the coming days.
