New Ford vehicle inventory levels have spiked. The automaker is now leading the industry, in this metric, by a wide margin.

Inventory levels are now elevated across most brands with some automakers managing this situation more effectively than others. Ford and Lincoln have experienced some of the highest inventory levels in the industry for several months, with Ford’s 2024 model year inventory reaching new highs in recent weeks.

In September, Ford reported a days’ supply of 112, ranking ninth among all brands. This figure rose to 119 days in October, the seventh-highest in the industry, raising concerns for the automaker. Data from S&P Global Mobility indicates that Ford holds the largest inventory of 2024 model-year vehicles among all brands, with over 400,000 units on dealer lots at the beginning of November. This is more than double the inventory of Chevrolet, the next closest brand.

Ram had been leading the industry with massive numbers of vehicles on lots, however, due to incentives and better managing their inventory, they are now trending among the leaders.

Notably, Ford is the only major automaker to have increased its 2024 model-year inventory over the past three months. Across the industry, there were 1,570,309 2024 model year vehicles in inventory at the start of November, compared to 1,448,814 vehicles from the 2025 model year.

Overall, U.S. new vehicle inventory reached 3.06 million units at the end of October, marking a 0.2% increase from September. This is the second consecutive month that inventory levels have exceeded three million, the highest since the pandemic began.
