The modified AMG GT R ran a 9.12 second quarter mile at 160.39 miles per hour.
The track-focused Mercedes-AMG GT R is already plenty fast from the factory. The twin-turbo 4.0L V8 sends 577 horsepower to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Thanks to that and the sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the car can hit 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds. The quarter mile is over in about 11.2 seconds with the car traveling at 130 mph at that point. Impressive. But if you want to set a world record, you are going to need to do more. And doing more is what the folks at Premier Tuning Group (PTG) are all about. It was founded in 2018 and since that time they have focused on developing hardware and software in-house to make cars faster.
According to a recent press release, PTG has created the quickest and fastest Mercedes-AMG GT R in the world. The car was let loose at the Great Lakes Raceway drag strip in Wisconsin. By the end of the day the car had set a world record. It posted a quarter mile time of 9.12 seconds and a speed of 160.39 miles per hour. There is no quicker or faster AMG GT R in the world. “We are thrilled to have set a new world record with our PTG AMG GT-R. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are honored to have our car recognized as the quickest and fastest in its class,” said PTG’s CEO, Steven Atneyel.
PTG Modified AMG GT R
Dyno charts posted on the PTG Instagram page show that this AMG GT R makes basically twice as much power as a stock GT R. It put down 1,131 horsepower and 974 pound-feet of torque to the wheels running 100 octane fuel with a methanol injection system. Getting there took a lot of effort, fine tuning and plenty of PTG parts. Some highlights of the build include PTG-X M177.1 turbochargers, PTG C190 3-ince carbon inlets, PTG high flow air filters, PTG M178 forged pistons and rods, PTG 5-Axis CNC ported heads, a PTG methanol injection system and a lot more. Handling this power is a PTG Dodson exclusive clutch system. Tuning is courtesy of a Verstand custom firmware ECU tune. The price for all this work is north of $30,000 but going fast has never been cheap.
Pushing Boundaries
Setting the world record is nice, but PTG is not about to rest on its laurels. They plan to keep pushing boundaries and hope to break more records. Speed records don’t tend to last very long so we are sure others will be gunning for them now. But PTG has proven what it can do and will be making quicker and faster cars of their own. But for now, they can say that they are truly sitting on top of the world.
