The Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Blue Oval’s staple EV in the U.S., is expected to receive its 2025 model year update in the following weeks, with production kicking off in the final quarter.

Considering that Ford’s electric crossover received considerable updates for the 2024 model year, we don’t expect the upcoming revision to change much. Here’s our preview of the future model year of the electric Mustang SUV. Please be aware that the information and some images provided in this article correspond to the current model year and as new details emerge, this page will be revised.

Design

Introduced as a 2021 model, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is nearly five years old. In the case of a normal, gas-powered SUV, Ford would’ve already rolled out a facelift. However, the Mustang Mach-E still looks quite appealing and customers continue to find it desirable. Moreover, there haven’t been any test mule sightings yet either, which usually precede a partial redesign.

At this point, we can only assume the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E will be a carryover model from the design perspective, with new color options and styling packages. The standard equipment included in the carried-over trims, expected to be Select, Premium, GT, and Rally could differ from the outgoing model. That said, customers specifying the GT trim will likely be able to specify the Performance upgrade package optionally.

Interior & Features

With Ford continuously improving its BlueCruise hands-free driving technology, currently at version 1.4, the 2025 Mustang Mach-E could ship with enhanced and additional functions. The latest version differs from the previous ones with superb in-lane stability. Moreover, it automatically adjusts the speed in even more curves and does that smoothly, making the hands-free driving experience more seamless. Even the SYNC 4A touchscreen infotainment system in the new model could debut new and improved functions.

On the wishlist

Owners and fans are expressing their desire for a few changes in the Mustang Mach-E with the upcoming model year. We’ve seen existing and potential customers talking about various revisions online. Front seat ventilation is one of the commonly discussed features for the 2025 model year. Also on the wishlist is Active Park Assist 2.0, a system that automates parking and was previously available in the Mustang Mach-E before the semiconductor chip shortage impacted production. Customers wish to get more security and safety as well, with a feature similar to Tesla’s Sentry mode and a higher-resolution backup camera.

Specifications

Battery & Motor

Save for marginal revisions in the efficiency and range figures, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E should not have changes in specifications. It is currently available with 72 kWh LFP and 91 kWh NCM battery pack options and a wide range of powertrain options in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive drivetrain layouts. The EV packs up to 480 horsepower and up to 700 lb.-ft. of torque and can hit 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. It delivers an EPA-estimated range of up to 320 miles.

Ford sources the 91 kWh NCM battery pack from LG Energy Solutions, which manufactures it at its factory in Wroclaw, Poland. The companies plan to partially relocate the production to the latter’s American plant in Holland, Michigan. The Blue Oval aims to make the Mustang Mach-E configurations featuring this battery pack eligible for the Clean Vehicle Tax Credit. The federal incentive program offers a tax credit of up to USD 7,500 on eligible models, depending on what extent they meet the requirements.

Charging

Ford needs to further improve the charging aspect of the Mustang Mach-E, as a peak power of 150 kW falls short of today’s standards. Depending on the battery pack you choose, the Mustang Mach-E takes 32.3 or 36.2 minutes for a 10-80% fast-charging session. Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6 can be fast-charged in half that time – 18 minutes, as they can accept direct current at much higher rates.

YoY improvements

Donna Dickson, who took over Ron Heiser’s Mustang Mach-E Chief Engineer position at Ford in 2021, talked about the range and various other aspects of the EV with YouTube channel Munro Live in August 2021. She suggested that the Mustang Mach-E will see range improvements with every model year update.

We have actions planned. It’s year-over-year improvement. So, we’ll go and get additional range improvements, actions coming in for ’22, we have more coming in for ’23, and more coming in for ’24.

Production & Sales

Ford manufactures the Mustang Mach-E at the Cuautitlán Stamping and Assembly Plant (Mexico) since 2020. Ford built 94,465 units of the Mustang Mach-E at its Mexican factory in 2023. In 2024, the company seems to have reduced the production target owing to the slowdown in EV demand globally. Between January and August 2024, it built just 33,408 units.

Ford sold 40,771 units of the Mustang Mach-E in the U.S. in 2023. Compared to 2022 (39,458 units), that was only a small, 3.3% growth. 2024 is looking promising, though, with year-to-date sales as of August, at 32,167 units, up 39.8% year-over-year (January-August 2023: 23,010 units).

TopElectricSUV says

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the best electric SUVs from a mainstream brand on the American market, offering performance that can match a Tesla, a spacious interior, familiar and intuitive controls for comfort and connectivity features, and a decent range that makes it usable for road trips. The MY2025 update should be aimed at making it more enticing for electric SUV customers with small improvements across the board.
