The new Renault 4 E-Tech is the second retro-inspired electric car from the French firm, hot on the heels of the new Renault 5

This is the Renault 4 E-Tech, an electric car inspired by its iconic 1960s namesake but reinterpreted as a crossover SUV to match modern tastes. The new car will go on sale in the middle of 2025.

The new Renault 4 is considerably larger than the original, measuring in at 4.14m long and with a 2.62m wheelbase, but many styling cues from its diminutive predecessor have been carried over.

A large dark grille echoes that of the original, while the front and rear lights also pay homage; other familiar touches include the rear-quarter window and styling lines incorporated into the bonnet and doors, with the latter intended to evoke the plastic parts on the original. The new car also incorporates a familiar silhouette thanks to a sloping rear hatch as per the original.

The new Renault 4 shares 68% of its components with the latest Renault 5 – and it seems many of those are found in its stylish interior. While a pair of obligatory infotainment screens dominate, the retro influence continues with bold angles and interesting materials.

Renault is keen to point out that the Renault 4 E-Tech is larger and more practical than its stablemate, however, with a 420-litre boot (plus 35 litres of underfloor storage) and ‘generous’ cabin space thanks to its longer wheelbase and tall roof.

Power comes from a choice of two battery and motor combinations: a 150hp motor with a 52kWh battery or a 120hp motor with a 40kWh battery. The former is good for a claimed range of 250 miles, with the smaller battery topping out at 186 miles.

Exact UK specification will be confirmed in 2025, but all the usual modern conveniences and safety systems are present and correct.

Prices are yet to be confirmed but expect a premium over the smaller Renault 5 E-Tech, which should come in at about £25,000 when sales begin.
