For two decades, this V12 G-Wagen has been owned by royalty in Dubai. Now, it’s time for this rare boxy beast to go to a new owner.
It’s almost an understatement to say that the Mercedes-Benz G-wagen is an iconic vehicle. From actual military use to prowling the streets of Beverly Hills, the G-Wagen has gone from a staple of utility to a symbol of wealth. However, even though they effectively have looked the same for nearly five decades, they are not all the same. Of course, as is true with any Mercedes-Benz product, the AMG variants come with quite a potent extra punch. That said, this G63 AMG is a little more special than that, too. It is reportedly one of only five V12 G-Wagen units to leave the factory.
This beastly V12 G-Wagen is set to sell at RM Sotheby’s Dubai auction on December 1st, 2024. The estimated value is between $350,000 and $400,000. While it’s a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t seem like too bad of a deal when you consider how rare it is. Let’s dive a little deeper and see what exactly that price point lands you.
When a V8 Just Isn’t Enough
True to its name, this G63 features a 6.2-liter V12 engine that outputs 440 horsepower. The power makes its way to the wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Alabaster White over a grey leather interior. It’s believed that only five examples of these V12 G-Wagens were ever sold. Reportedly, you couldn’t just buy one, either.
RM Sotheby’s reports that Mercedes-Benz hand-picked from the AMG customer base and personally invited to purchase one. Without a doubt, that means you need to be a special customer. How special? The royal family of Dubai purchased this example new from Gargash Mercedes-Benz of Dubai in October 2001. Since then, the royal family has kept it in their position. Now, though, it’s time for this rare beast to find its new home.
Describing it in “like new” condition may be a bit of an understatement. In its 23 years of ownership, the royal family has only put around 27,650 miles on this beauty. Certainly, they’ve got plenty of other cars to drive. Still, it’s hard to believe they didn’t spend more time behind the wheel of the exclusive G-Wagen. We could easily see ourselves putting that kind of mileage on it in one year, let alone two decades! It’s worth noting, though, that the family did indeed put it to good use. It was an official state vehicle, so it was likely used for transporting members of the royal family or something to that effect.
The car has some notable features like a CD Changer, electric sliding Roof, and a Nokia hands-free system (yes, Nokia. It was the early 2000s, after all). Additionally, it has the optional TV Tuner, which is a phenomenal touch for a car from 2002. Overall, it’s an awesome car in phenomenal shape and spec. We can’t wait to see the final hammer price on this incredibly rare piece of AMG history. Hopefully, the new owner doesn’t tuck it away from the public eye and takes it out for a drive from time to time.
