CARTERSVILLE, GA – Savoy Automobile Museum announced, in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, the opening of its newest temporary exhibition, Women in Motorsports. It is a collaboration with Women in Motorsports North America (WIMNA). Motor sport events, in which women could compete, have existed since 1897 at the first known women’s motorized tricycle race. There is a long history of women in motorsports, and this exhibition focuses on well-known women racers, as well as up-and-coming regional women racers. It steps through the various race series, featuring racecars from the NHRA JD, Drag Racing League, U.S. Legend Cars, SCCA, IMSA, American Sprint Car Series, NHRA Top Fuel, and Indy Car Series. The exhibition is open now through July 7, 2024. Admission to the museum is complimentary for members, $15 for adults, $5 for youth 12 and under, and complimentary for children 2 years of age and under. To further the outreach and provide opportunities for girls to experience the Women In Motorsports exhibition, girls 18 years of age or younger can gain complimentary admission to Savoy during the month of March during normal business hours (general admission). In conjunction with the opening of Women in Motorsports, a special evening Tireside Chat is scheduled for March 16, 2024. Join them for the exciting premiere of the documentary “Shirley” and an engaging panel discussion! Hosted by the distinguished Ken Gross, this event promises a unique experience as they delve into the incredible racing career of the legendary NHRA Top Fuel World Champion, Shirley Muldowney. The panel discussion features Shirley Muldowney, a trailblazer in NHRA racing, known for her remarkable achievements, Emily Arenas, WWEX Group Legend Car Champion hailing from Social Circle, GA, and Sarah Montgomery, the first woman to podium in the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Series, proudly representing Atlanta, GA.
This event provides an excellent opportunity to gain insights into Shirley’s extraordinary racing journey and to hear firsthand from Emily and Sarah about the challenges and experiences women face in the world of racing. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy the premiere and be part of a thought-provoking panel discussion! Tickets for the general public are $50 which Includes admission to the museum, pre-program reception featuring light fare and a cash bar, as well as a complimentary movie poster.
