Part of what makes Mercedes-Benz such a reputable brand is the reputation for luxury and elegance that the cars bring to anyone who drives one.
But Mercedes’ dedication to precision, quality, and high-performance means that a wide variety of people can use Mercedes vehicles for a wide variety of tasks. Below we’ll introduce you to a few different people and groups who use Mercedes’ reliable vehicles in ways you might not expect.
Mongolian Wolf Hunting
One of the most fascinating and surprising uses of Mercedes vehicles is as luxury RVs in Mongolian wolf hunting expeditions. That’s right, two Mongolian businessmen bought matching Mercedes Benz Zetros for use while they hunt in the Altai mountains.
But they didn’t stop there. They also outfitted the trucks with all the amenities of an RV, so they each have a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, grills, WiFi, TV, and more.
And it’s good that they chose Mercedes vehicles, because with a chassis load of 16 tons, they rely completely on the 7.2-liter 326 horsepower diesel engine to get them up and down the snowy mountains of Mongolia.
Unimog Military Use
Another, perhaps unorthodox, application of Mercedes vehicles is the Unimog, a Mercedes-Benz multi-utility vehicle used by multiple world militaries.
Outfitted with a Mercedes four-cylinder engine, the Unimog U 4000 has 177 horsepower and a top speed of just over 85 km/h. This power coupled with its all-wheel-drive and coil-spring suspension makes the Unimog perfect for a variety of cross-country applications.
Sometimes it is used as a transport vehicle, for both personnel and cargo, and for this reason the crew cab can be extended to accommodate up to seven people.
It can also be used to tow heavy military machinery, including aircraft, and can be used as an engineering tractor if a snow plow, crane, or other special equipment is attached.
Sprinter Van Amazon
Another versatile Mercedes Benz vehicle that you are more often to see in your day to day life is the Sprinter. Many of the Sprinter vans sold in the US are used commercially, like for companies such as Amazon.
Amazon has bought tens of thousands of sprinter vans, which, when painted with Amazon colors and given the Amazon logo, will become part of their delivery fleet.
In Hong Kong, Poland, and the U.K., the sprinter is even used by the police forces because of its durability, safety, and payload. Scandinavia, the U.S., New Zealand, and Australia all use Sprinters as ambulances for similar reasons.
Sprinters are also commonly used as passenger shuttles, wheelchair accessible vans, office vans, etc.
