  • A Mercedes-Benz test mule spied under a V-Class body hints at a next-generation update for the range, including its Vito variant.
  • The next-gen V-Class is expected to be unveiled around 2026.

Vans may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, their versatility brings a lot to the table. As displayed by Mercedes-Benz vans like the Sprinter and V-Class/Vito, they are as capable as cars and SUVs in handling different powertrains and builds.

Unlike the rest though, the architecture of vans from the three-pointed star marque has an edge when it comes to tailoring them for specialized purposes whether it is mainly driven for transporting passengers or cargo. Mercedes vans further stand out when it comes to their recreational potential as displayed by the Marco Polo and other aftermarket tuning builds like the Winnebago Sprinter.

Recognizing the importance of this niche in the market, Mercedes appears to be on its way to a next-generation update for the V-Class range. Recently, a test mule for the vehicle was spied by Carscoops, giving us a preview of what may be in store for the range in the near future.

From the looks of it, the development of the next-gen V-Class is still dependent on a test mule utilizing the body of its present version. But then again, a closer look reveals a flatter nose than the existing model, an overhaul in the greenhouse, and wider wheel arches, which should be the direction Mercedes is heading for the product.

Although information is scarce about the next-gen V-Class at the moment, insiders speaking in hushed tones suggest it could benefit from its maker’s Drive Pilot system with Level 3 SAE autonomous driving capabilities like the one equipped on the new S-Class and EQS sedans. It is also expected to be underpinned by the German automaker’s Van.EA dedicated EV platform featuring a modular design with choices for either a single- or dual-motor power unit.

The next iteration of the V-Class will likely debut in 2026 and be marketed under a 2027 badge.
