(00:00) hey it’s Tim pickup truck plus SV talk today I’m in the 2025 Ram 1500 R I just bought for the channel picked it up last week and in this video I’ll tell you my top five good things and five things I don’t like including one quality issue that Ram needs to address so with this truck I picked up last week I’ve done videos on where I bought it which is Mark Dodge I’ve done videos when I price paid for it I’ll put those links above I did a video on the engineer did Hurricane engine I’ll put I have a video why I
(00:32) bought these trucks I’m not going to go through those details in this video you can search those out on the channel I’m just going to do five things like and five things don’t like we to kind of whip through these that way if you’re out there thinking about Ram r or you’re just curious you get the details you need right away okay let’s start number one that’s going to be the styling I really like the way this truck looks yes it’s like the TRX yes you are correct now this one as you see it is pretty
(00:55) dirty why I drove 800 miles out a day through a snowstorm to get back home pel has done a ppf WRA ceramic coating they said I need to wait 10 days before I wash it so here it is dirty I don’t want to wait 10 days do this video it is what it is but I just like the overall look of this I like the tires I like suspension it rides really nice the tires really helped out in the snow and ice lots of grip felt really under control as I drove I like how the the sides bulge out the fenders bulge out it’s just a nice bigger stance it just
(01:27) looks cool every time I’ve looked at it so far this week and when I drove it in Michigan First Drive event and when I see it at Auto shows it just just something about this overall look that Ram has done a really good job with this truck okay the second thing I like about this truck it’s right here it’s the rho the removed Hemi option like you smart ass to say in the comments I actually like that let’s go talk about it okay let’s talk about this hurricane engine so the Hem is gone hurricane is a 3 l
(01:54) inline 6 engine and it’s got twin turbos and it freaking hauls this thing is just damn impressive and it’s really even more impressive passing speeds uh between 60 to 90 it just hauls but before you know you BL you’re doing 95 going oh whoa hold on a minute I was trying to break in the engine by doing varying speeds and I made sure I did varying speeds trust me on that one so this engine is a really good powertrain it’s been out for a couple years now we’ve seen a few issues here and there
(02:28) as you’d expect statistically there’s still going to be issue here and there with engines the last generation Hemi it had issues the Hemi tick here and there statistically that’s what happens in the world that’s way life is so but this one is 540 horsepower 520 foot of torque the foot pons of torque Max torque is at 3700 RPMs so it’s really impressive when it does that should be 35 we’ll put comment down below um but it’s a very impressive powertrain now I love the TX I love superch charge V8 the seat with
(02:58) Rumble it was really cool but I would take the better field economy here so I’m averaging about 12 m per gallon through all the road trip I did you’re going to say oh my God 12 m per gallon well my big horn got 18 and 19 again let’s do apples to apples comparison this is a big off-road truck it’s aerodynamically taller it’s got bigger tires it’s going to burn more fuel what I’m comparing it to is the TRX when the TRX came out a bunch of my journalist friends and I would do reviews on it and
(03:27) the game was how low we get fuel economy go down people posting online 7 m gallon 8 m gallon so I’m looking at this thinking man I’m getting 3 or 4 mile per gallon better than a supercharge V8 I have about the same 060 time I actually like this better in certain off-road driving situations and passing speeds and yeah what am I missing I’m missing exhaust note so sure if you want to spend uh I don’t know you want to spend more money and buy the TRX and have the better exhaust note be my guest I’m not
(03:57) going to argue with that at all I just happen to like this and I like the better fuel economy Yes 91 octane guess what the tix was 91 octane so again apples apples comparison now there is a lot of rumors online right now about the Hemi coming back it’s been all over online people are speculating like crazy this is Smiles per mile by the way Smiles per mile that’s not F economy Smiles per mile a lot anyways a lot of conversations about the Hemi uh Tim keskus the new Ram CEO the former CEO that came back to be the new Ram CEO was
(04:27) in the auto show in Michigan and he was quot Ed by m one is saying yes they can put a Hemi in this truck it does fit however that’s not the whole story wait what what’s going on with that well two things first of all the electrical architecture of this truck that got changed for 2025 model year isn’t set up for this Hemi engine so you’re talking about a lot of testing a lot of changes with with how the truck responds with new engine a lot of programming and that’s going to take a long period of
(05:00) time okay that those are stuff that people say well what they do in 25 oh they took took rid of the Hemi brought the r and have a bigger screen that’s all the changes they did no trucks are consistently evolving they’re constantly evolving and changing and so this is a different architecture so that’s problem as well the other problem he pointed out was that the supplier for the E torque system has now moved on to building other engines so they’ have to go back to that supplier relaunch the system get
(05:27) him back on board get him producing get testing done get it go to the plant and figure out how they can to build this through the assembly line and then ship it to dealerships so it’s actually quite a bit of work multi-year Endeavor it’s a multi-year Endeavor to have that done you can’t just flip switch that’s not how Automotive works and then you have the third part of that which part I’m interested in is consumer demand so I could be Tim and I say man I love the Hemi and he loved the Hemi and he loves
(05:56) hurricane he has he actually has this rho in order as well you can say I love it it but if I go to do it it’s going to cost me X Millions dollars to have it done and where is the consumer demand for it I know people in the comments going be like well I want one I wouldn’t buy a ram without a V8 I wouldn’t buy a ram without a damn dipstick this doesn’t have a dipstick by the way so I hear that but I just happened to have a 2023 Toyota Tundra pull out past me why do I bring that up well Tundra lost her V8
(06:22) for the 2023 model refresh and you know what sales are up they’re actually setting some sales records nearly matching what they first did in 2007 went from the basically the 7/8 fullsize truck to the fulls size truck so I’m going to sit back and look at sales results what are customers saying with their wallets versus what people are saying in the comments below that’ll be the inter part if we looked at last quarter sales results we finally saw the heavy duty truck excuse me light duty trucks gain more momentum for Ram now
(06:58) Tim points out that really the issue with that is this truck was about 3 months too late coming to the marketplace the production at the assembly plant was behind and they need to get rock and rolling so let’s look at quarter 1 let’s look at quarter 2 next year where are the sales guys this is a multi-trillion Dollar business you can’t just make decisions based on your heartstrings it’s got to make sense pend the paper let’s go and check out some of the other things I like about this 2025 ramp
(07:30) 1500 rho Okay the third thing I like on the list of things is the interior design this is a really sharp looking interior I like the shifter my wife likes that P pasture screen she uses that already I like the r badging there I like it on the seats seat comfort’s nice just overall interior design is really really well done I actually like the big screen too really nice and easy to see my cameras yeah I mean well when it’s not dirty but it’s nice to be to see the cameras in bigger view not have a smaller screen and just overall I just
(08:07) like the overall design of this rho and one more point I make about interior design is the fact that a lot of people in the comments will say man Tim trucks got an expensive you know I bought a big horn in 2019 and it was this much now the Big Horn today is $10,000 more what I would tell you is the Big Horn that you’re comparing 2019 is not the 2025 Big Horn the trims have changed so your big horn 2019 is not a 2025 Tradesman trims have changed so this interior trim here did not even exist in 2019 so they that’s how much things have
(08:43) changed so you can’t really compare trucks in even the last 5 years because the trim levels back then don’t match up with the trim levels today and this truck didn’t even exist 5 years ago nothing thing I like about this truck is all just the features of the smart things that Ram has done to make this truck more livable for example flat loading floor right little extra storage bins fold up seats slide and recline seats Chargers back there with the heated and cooled outboard seats so just things that I think my kids are enjoy
(09:16) and long road trips to enjoy I like the pockets for things I like the storage bin I like inside was do in the front seats do the Center Council I like this a lot I did this a lot on my trip where I used this one see I got something stored in there right now an empty wrapper and then I used the big one for even more storage so nice storage options and I really liked all the cup holders and things just all the pieces adjustable steering adjustable uh pedals I got seat positions and you know what I don’t even miss the telescoping steering
(09:50) wheel no it doesn’t come out I didn’t miss that at all I thought I might but with the adjustable seats adjustable excuse me adjustable pedals adjustable seat and the seating position and I had no problems okay one more thing to talk about here on the like list is the hood design now I have the rho graphics package which I honestly really like I know people have this idea they want to take and de batch everything I like the badge there I think it just looks cool and I like the little styling hurricane
(10:17) badge there as well on the hood but what I really like and why I’m sitting inside the truck show you this is the way that hood comes down that’s where my TIR is at right in the line there so when I was driving through the snow or driving off-road and such I knew where my wheels were easily because I could see more down here and see kind of see where I was going over stuff so if they had taken this hood and made it as tall all the way across I would lose that Advantage but I really like that we’re
(10:42) seeing that more like in Jeep Gladiators seeing that more in Ford Broncos and things where they’ve taken the hood down a little bit they keep getting the air flow they don’t block the air but you’re able to see your tires better when you’re off-roading or snowstorms or parking what have you um I really like that design okay the first issue I don’t like and it’s a quality issue and I didn’t notice it until the xell pointed out to me but I’m going to get close to this paint I’ve wiped this down a little
(11:06) bit just by hand but it’s bubbling right through here I don’t know if the camera shows it if you can see it because of the white and the coloring of the sky the way this the sky is today with the cloudiness but there are Bubble marks it is not smooth the paint is bubbling right through the Section here I will have this fixed to dealership later on when I get around to it but uh yeah that’s kind of a not a great thing to think to see when you get a brand new truck already paint bubbling with th miles on it okay a thing I don’t like
(11:33) and I I came across this pretty quickly is this charger here so I have a dual charger for your phones you have one there one there you got to kind of make sure it’s in the right spot I’ve I’ve played around with this and it’s got to be a little more over but it’s also I noticed it overheats my phone now in the heavyduty refresh they are making it so this is a cooled charger but in this one it’s not cooled yet and my phone got overheated quite quickly which is frustrating to pick up your phone your
(11:59) phone’s on fire or it stops charging because it’s too hot so frustrated about that I actually did get some cords out and I manually plugged it in because I just on a road long road trip it wasn’t cool like really cool like the phone wasn’t cool yeah that kind of stuff one other thing that I don’t really like with this truck and I it’s like or confusion or something I I can’t quite fig this one out so let’s talk about the four-wheel drive options here okay so this is a full-time four-wheel drive truck right
(12:30) so there is no two wheel drive so that means I have what four high and four low right well then why do I have a four-wheel drive Auto I can’t shift in for low without stopping the vehicle going to neutral so why do I have four-wheel drive Auto and then why also don’t I just have a two wheel drive like I understand four-wheel drive and people want to I especially for me it’s it’s a must I have to have it but I know guys down south that want to put in two wheel drive and do some bigger donuts and things and have some
(12:58) fun and they don’t know option here and for me as well I’m just kind of confused by the whole thing I don’t understand why we have a fourwh drive Auto if it’s full-time for Drive why not just to have for drive low as your other option okay let’s talk about two last things with this truck let’s first of all talk about this active Drive Assist you can kind of see this white here this is lit up this lights it turns green when when it’s in using at the Active drive and you basically can sit back it’s not fully
(13:25) autonomous driving it’s not self-driving but the truck does drive itself and sitting back while you’re paying attention let me put some footage on the screen CU I really had a lot of frustrations with with it the other day on my road [Music] trip looking forward come on I’m looking forward yeah I’m looking forward I’m looking straight at you and now we’re on this Lane we’re kind of moving to that lane this is an unfinished product that needs to be worked on um so let’s see if we can change no see
(14:01) handsfree unavailable Place driver override Jesus crimey so that’s a little frustrating and one of the last things I don’t like about this truck is this is the active Drive Assist button this is adaptive cruise control button and there is no regular cruise control I know I pulled over I read the manual I went online looked at up there is no regular cruise control you don’t hold this down longer like you do in some Brands and you get cruise control you only have adaptive cruise control so here’s what
(14:31) happens the front of this truck got full of ice and snow and actually my parking sensor was going crazy because they covered up and my automatic emergency braking was disabled so I didn’t care I was driving on some dry roads at that moment I just gone through a storm and I was just going to put on cruise control I can’t wash it because of the xell thing I just want to use cruise control I couldn’t I had to pull over yet again make another stop and I had to take my snow brush and beat off all of the ice
(14:57) buildup on there and pour a little little water on the sensors to try to make sure that they’re clear so I could use adaptive cruise control again now that kind of stinks as well because not everybody loves adaptive cruise control I know a lot of people that would rather just have cruise control they don’t like the adaptive cruise control because of the fact when you get a vehicle in front of you sometimes when you go to change lanes it’s not as responsive now with the new electrical architecture in this
(15:21) truck it’s really much more responsive than has been in years past so that shouldn’t be an issue for customers however I don’t understand why just can’t have regular cruise control if I hold down the button other brands do it this electrical architecture should be able to handle it you have the all the sensors right there anyways just give me that other option in a weird case like I ran into or if a customer doesn’t want to use it give me either choice that to me is an easy fix okay there you go
(15:48) there are my likes and dislikes in the first uh 1385 miles of this Ram rho I got more stuff coming I got to talk about what XEL did really interesting thing I learned a lot from those guys what they got done we do some Towing we’ll do some off-road playing around with this and we’ll do a lot of comparison videos with new light duty off-road trucks that I get that’s where the market is right now and I get a lot of those for a 7-Day press loan so I’m excited about that so it should be a really good time loaning this truck I
(16:16) typically keep these trucks a couple years years couple years whatever and the thing that you may not notice and you should is I never once talk about reliability in the videos when I have these trucks as far as my personal take on it that’d be stupid duh what I do is I talk to you the consumers I read your comments I check the forums I go to Consumer Reports I go to JD Power I go to Facebook groups and that’s when I compile the data on overall reliability of these trucks that way we have a bigger pool of statistics and then also
(16:51) understand that you don’t go to Facebook group or Forum to typically live on your truck you go there cuz you’re pissed off about something so that’s when I got all that stuff including n.c. goov I’ve used uh that as well they have complaints and Manufacturing Communications from different issues the cons consumers have so that’s what I got so again more to come check out other videos up over here website down below as well pickuptruck talk.
(17:19) com as always thanks for watching I will see you down the road
