The Tesla Cybertruck is being recalled for the third and fourth time for a windshield wiper motor failure and a trunk bed trim piece.

These two recalls announced the same day on NHTSA.gov, are the third and fourth recalls so far this year. They also amount to nearly all Tesla Cybertrucks being recalled.

Tesla Cybertruck Recall Windshield Wiper

Starting with the windshield wiper, Tesla says excessive electrical current can cause the wiper motor to fail. This is a big deal since the Cybertruck has only one front windshield wiper.

Tesla says this recall affects all 2024 Cybertruck vehicles built between November 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024.

The recall report states Tesla first found out about this issue on February 2, 2024. Through their investigation, they found a supplier conducted a functional test sending excessive current to the component.

Tesla says that the supplier changed its test and a new functional test was adopted with a lower current.

After this change was made, Tesla decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles.

Cybertruck Recall Trunk Bed Trim

For this recall, a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the trunk bed trim, known as the sail applique, has come loose according to a safety recall report. The cause is either the installation of the sail applique or the adhesive was done incorrectly.

This recall impact all 2024 Cybertruck models built between November 13, 2023, and May 26, 2024.

If the applique comes loose, you can hear it in the cabin or witness it landing on the road.

Tesla became aware of this problem when an undelivered Cybertruck arrived at a Tesla delivery center with the missing applique on December 28, 2023.

Engineers then investigated the Giga Factory Tesla to check on tooling and improve adhesive controls.

Then on May 11, 2024 another vehicle was observed to not have the applique.

The plot thickened.

“From May 11 through May 29, 2024, Tesla investigated the incident and determined that the applique had delaminated from the supplier-controlled adhesion interface due to the applique or adhesion not being installed according to specification,” according to the safety recall report.

Tesla investigated further by surveying and assessing the retention of the sail appliques over a 30 day span ending on June 11, 2024. They found several instances of loose or detached appluques due to improve installation of the applique or adhesive.

They then initiated a voluntary recall.

Tesla says all stores will be notified by June 24, 2024 and owner notification letters will be mailed out. Owners can have either of these recalls fixed at no charge.
