The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed has made its world debut as the first model in the exclusive Mythos series, of which only 250 will be produced.

The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed debuted on a floating pontoon in the port of Monte Carlo ahead of the Monte Carlo Formula 1 Grand Prix in May 2024. Now, Mercedes-AMG is revealing more details about the model, minus the price.

In essence, the Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed is a Mercedes-AMG SL without a windscreen, onto which the front end from the Mercedes-AMG One has been grafted: a wide central air intake flanked by two generous air intakes and a chrome-plated Mercedes logo on the soft nose. In addition, there are the deflectors in front and behind the wheels and the diffuser at the rear.
The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed rides on 21-inch forged aluminum wheels with carbon fiber covers (the rear covers are fully closed). The front covers are open to optimize airflow in the front.

The windscreen and front pillars have been removed and in their place, Mercedes offers the HALO protection system from F1, introduced in 2018. Between the driver and passenger, there is a separation system that is firmly attached to the car’s shell structure and there is also a roll-over protection system that consists of two rigid roll bars, also connected to the shell structure. The two scoops behind the seats bear the AMG emblem and are reminiscent of legendary racing cars such as the 300 SLR.

The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed comes with two specially designed color-painted helmets that use an intercommunication system, which can also be connected to passenger smartphones.

The exterior is painted in two colors – black and red, while the interior is wrapped in black and white leather, and features AMG Performance heated seats with neck heating and AMG Performance steering wheel. The area behind the seats features carbon fiber.

Another point of interest is the custom-made analog clock designed by IWC Schaffhausen placed in the center of the dashboard, and the Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System with 15 speakers and 1170 watts. There is no textile roof but a protective weather cover is offered for the situations when the car is parked.

MSA platform, V8 bi-turbo, integral steering, active stabilized bars
Based on the Mercedes-AMG SL, which uses the new MSA platform developed by AMG specifically for sports models, the Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed has an aluminum space frame with a self-supporting structure and benefits from the AMG SL’s active aerodynamics. So, the active aerodynamic element made of carbon fiber and placed in the underbody in front of the engine automatically lowers by approximately 40 millimeters at speeds above 80 km/h and creates the Venturi effect.

The powertrain is taken unchanged from the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic: 4-liter bi-turbo V8 bi-turbo V8 with 585 PS coupled with 9-speed automatic transmission with wet starting clutch. Fully variable all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and active stabilizer bars are standard, as is a ceramic disc braking system.

Mercedes hasn’t announced the price of the Mercedes-AMG Pure-Speed, but it will definitely be more expensive than the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic. Instead, Mercedes has officially announced that it will only build 250 examples. By comparison, the Mercedes-AMG One is built in 279 examples, and the SLR Stirling Moss was built in only 75 examples.
