Hagerty, the collector car insurance company which promotes the Amelia Island Concours 2022, has just announced the winners of this year’s Concours Best of Show and Concours de Sport awards, two of the highest awards in the collector car hobby. A 1934 Duesenberg Model J Convertible has won this year’s Concours Best of Show Award. And the top motorsports award went to the 2017 Cadillac DPi-VR, a prototype race car.

The 1934 Duesenberg J-531 Convertible Coupe is owned by Harry Yeaggy. In its background information provided by the owner, it was disclosed that this beautiful vintage motorcar has only 9,000 miles, having been owned by high profile millionaires its entire life. Its first owner was General Mills founder Margorie Post, the most successful woman businesswoman of her time. Coachwork was done by Walker LeGrande. Only three Duesenberg convertible coupes were ever built by the coachbuilder.

Our Cars-On-Line car show team covered The Amelia this weekend. Bringing you snapshots of the action leading up to the big concours ceremonies on Sunday, and on the concours show field itself. It was a chance to allow our readers to see some of the finest classic motorcars that exist on the planet today. The Amelia draws cars that you will never see anywhere else.

The Amelia Island Concours 2022 drew more than 260 rare vehicles from collections around the world to the Golf Club of Amelia Island, on the Ritz-Carlton complex, for a celebration of the automobile like no other. Here is a gallery of what we saw on Concours Sunday.

Auctions at The Amelia

Already on Friday morning a record setting auction sale set the tone for this weekend. When the Gooding & Company Auction offered a 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C Teardrop Coupe to the highest bidder, the unique marque was sold for $12,200,000. Prices that are hard to comprehend will happen often here at The Amelia.  Bonhams also held a high profile collector car auction during the four-day event.

The elegant displays for the RM Sotheby’s Auction here at the Amelia Island Concours 2022 on Saturday were a fitting complement to the quality of the auction fair for collector car investors. Bidding on the top cars was competitive as the buyers knew what they had come here to accomplish. The top sale here today was a 1934 Packard Twelve Custom Convertible Victoria, a car that could very well have competed for the Best of Show in the Concours on Sunday.

Here is what happened at the RM Sotheby’s Auction on Saturday as recorded by Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com.

The auctions were great entertainment while we wait for the champagne awards ceremony on Sunday. That is when they will announce the Best of Show Concours awards here at the Amelia Island Concours 2022, while we enjoy viewing some of the finest classic motorcars in existence. It is all part of the experience here at “The Amelia,” as the locals all it. The concours events are happening here all weekend, March 3-6, 2022. High profile classic car auctions, concours cruises and black tie events will abound. In its 27th year, the esteemed concours has become one of the top two car shows in the country where you will see rare vintage motorcars. (The other is the Pebble Beach Concours in California.) Each year it draws the top cars in the classic car hobby to compete in concours judging.

Hagerty, the collector car insurance company, owns the rights to the Amelia Island Concours d’ Elegance, and is in control of the entire weekend experience here at the Ritz Carton complex. Hagerty told us that Saturday’s all-new Cars & Community presented by Griot’s Garage featured RADwood, Concours d’Lemons and Supercar Celebration displays along with a curated Cars & Caffeine. In total, the event showcased more than 450 vehicles over three fairways of The Golf Club of Amelia Island.

Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance celebrated 215 historically significant vehicles in addition to the two-day Supercar Celebration display. Eighty judges from across the globe were asked to judge the cars in the Amelia Island Concours 2022.

Continuing a 27-year tradition of giving, Hagerty pledged more than $200,000 to local charitable partners including Community Hospice and Palliative Care, Spina Bifida of Jacksonville and local area Shop with Cops programs.

The Amelia’s youth initiatives reached hundreds of local high school and middle school students. Opportunities included The Amelia’s first-ever Supercar Celebration Tour to the local high school and middle school. Hagerty also hosted 34 high school students for a seminar, an automotive restoration presentation and a tour of the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island Auction. On Sunday, experts mentored nearly a dozen youth as they selected vehicles from the concours show field to receive Hagerty’s Youth Awards.

Cars-On-Line’s car show team was among the 250 credentialed media in attendance including journalists from across the United States as well as France, Italy, the UK, Hungary, the Netherlands, Argentina, Spain, Belgium and Germany. Hagerty said there were 22,000 spectators for the event.
