Artcurial Motorcars – On May 9th, the day before the Grand Prix historique de Monaco, Artcurial Motorcars organized the auction at the Hôtel Fairmont in Monaco. The forty-four rare models from the private collection The W Collection: From Stockholm to Monaco all found a new home, with a total of more than 30 million euros with premium. This highly anticipated sale offered one of the most important European single-owner collections, assembled with passion over decades by Staffan Wittmark, Swedish collector of classic cars and aesthete. Coinciding with the world’s most prestigious historical event, this sale, led with panache by Matthieu Lamoure and Pierre Novikoff, achieved remarkable results, setting new world auction records.
Among the vehicles offered with no reserve, nine cars were sold for over one million euros. The two Ferraris in this collection were the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB 1962, which fetched €5,530,000 [$5,965,542] with premium, and the Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California LWB sold for €5,186,800 [$5,595,312] with premium.
This effective strategy helped set five world auction records and one European record. Specifically, new heights were attained for the 1983 Porsche 911 SC cabriolet (€110,856 incl. premium), the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster Turbo-Look 1989 (€262,240 [$282,894] incl. premium), the 1997 Porsche 993 S (€220,520 [$237,888] incl. premium), the 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera RS (€274,160 [$295,752] incl. premium), and the European record for the 1973 Dino 246 GTS (€679,440 [$732,952] incl. premium).
The Mercedes 300 SL “Papillon” also achieved strong results, selling above its high estimate, and two Roadster models sold for €1,546,600 [$1,668,410] and €1,728,000 [$1,864,097] (incl. premium), illustrating their rarity and the strong demand from connoisseurs and collectors.
