Monte Carlo, Monaco – At The Monaco Sale ‘Les Grandes Marques à Monaco’, Bonhams|Cars will offer a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Coupé. Featuring bespoke coachwork by Drogo at Carrozzeria Sports Cars, this car is distinguished by the combination of this renowned Italian coachbuilder and stands out within the revered ranks of the rarest and one-off 250 GTO models. This car is poised to be a centerpiece of the Bonhams|Cars Monaco Sale, timed to the Historic Monaco Grand Prix. This year’s sale is especially noteworthy as it marks the eagerly awaited return to Villa La Vigie. The venue offers sweeping views of Monte Carlo and serves as a fitting backdrop for an automobile of such pedigree, in a city synonymous with automotive excellence.

This Ferrari 250 GT is recognized for its illustrious past and unique coachwork, presenting in pristine condition readying it for the world’s most prestigious events. Chassis ‘1717 GT’ represents a lineage of premier coachbuilders associated with Ferrari. Originally a Pininfarina-bodied coupé, it was later transformed by Carrozzeria Sports Cars, under the guidance of Piero Drogo in 1966, enhancing both its aesthetic and aerodynamic profile.

Chassis ‘1717 GT’ has a notable competition and concours history, gracing events from the 55th annual Geneva Motor Show in 1985 to the ‘Ferrari 75 Years’ exhibition at Autoworld Museum in Belgium in 2022, as well as historic races across Europe, such as the Carrera des Dolomites in 1988, the 31st Annual Rolex Monterey race at Laguna Seca in 2004, and the TT in the Goodwood Revival Meeting. Its journey includes ownership transitions of recognized Ferrari collectors and has been driven in competitions by American racing driver Duncan Dayton, Australian racing driver David Clark, and Swedish Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson, to name but a few.

Recently receiving a respray to its original silver hue, ‘1717 GT’ has been meticulously maintained and is presented in fast road specification, which can easily be adapted to competitive racing.

“This is a quintessential example of customized Italian coachwork from the 1960s, which offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a vehicle of unparalleled design and storied heritage, its allure guaranteeing that no similar model will cross your path at meetings, rallies or concours d’élégance,” commented Philip Kantor, International Chairman, Bonhams|Cars.
