Mazda’s MX-5 has had plenty of special editions throughout its lifespan and after a brief pause of two years there’s another name to add to the list – Kizuna.

The MX-5 Kizuna is based on the mid-range Exclusive-Line Roadster model (there’s no hard-top RF version here) and gets the entry-level Skyactiv-G engine, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit putting out 130bhp and 152Nm of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. That means a 0-62mph time of 8.3 seconds and top speed of 127mph.

What is new on this Kizuma model is a combination of Deep Crystal Blue or Machine Grey exterior paint mated to a blue fabric hood. The interior features Light Stone Nappa leather we’ve seen on other MX-5s, but the 16-inch alloy wheels get a grey paint finish.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK said; “the Kizuna continues our long heritage of offering uniquely styled limited edition versions.”

250 examples of the Kizuna will be made – 170 in Machine Grey and 80 in Deep Crystal Blue. Pricing for the special edition MX-5 starts from £30,265 and it can be ordered from May.
