Embodying an unmistakable Kodo exterior design, the all-new Mazda MX-30 EV is here. With an EPA estimated range of 100 miles on a full charge, the MX-30 EV is the ideal companion for city-living and daily commutes, yet it delivers superb driving dynamics that are best enjoyed over a longer drive. Here are three picturesque California road trips to inspire your next day off.

Los Angeles to Balboa Island

Escape the hustle of L.A. with a coastal trip to this quaint man-made island full of boutique shopping and frozen bananas.

From Los Angeles head south toward Seal Beach before taking California State Route 1 on a scenic, coastal drive through Huntington Beach to Newport Beach.

Plug in at one of the many EV charging stations in town before taking a leisurely walk along the harbor and over the bridge to Balboa Island.

Grab breakfast before strolling along the two-mile boardwalk that wraps around island.

Visit the many boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants along Marine Avenue — the town’s charming main street — or hire a kayak, motorboat, or whale-watching tour to experience the harbor and its million-dollar yachts. Families will enjoy a quick five-minute ferry ride to Balboa Pier to visit the Ferris wheel, nautical museum, and arcade.

On the way back to your Mazda MX-30 EV, be sure to pick up one of the island’s famed frozen bananas (two neighboring shops both claim to be the originators of the chocolate-covered frozen treat) for a sweet end to the day.

Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo

Head north to explore Danish history, hot springs, and farm-fresh food.

From Santa Barbara, follow US-101 N along the stunning coast until you reach Solvang, established in 1911 by a group of Danish teachers. Plug in at one of many EV charging stations in town while you explore the old mission, museums, or one of the many Danish bakeries downtown.

Zip up US-101 N for a late-morning dip in Avila Beach. Discovered in 1907, naturally-occurring hot springs here feed both the public pool and local spas.

Hungry for lunch? Head into San Luis Obispo for charging and a charming meal. Located just 10 miles from the ocean in one of the largest agricultural regions in the country, restaurants here have access to incredibly fresh, local food you’ll be thinking of long after you return home.

San Francisco to Point Reyes

Head up the coast, past Mount Tamalpais, to enjoy cinematic views and world-class cheese.

From San Francisco, cross the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and follow US-101 to CA-1 N. Enjoy a pit stop at Stinson Beach for a walk along the beach, stunning hikes, or fresh seafood before continuing to Point Reyes.

With 71,000 acres of nature preserve, Point Reyes is populated by elephant seals, Douglas-fir forests, and an iconic 145-year-old lighthouse. January to April and July to September are prime times for Pacific gray whale sightings.

Point Reyes Station, a small town at the mouth of the bay, features a charging station just blocks from a variety of delicious lunch options and shops. We recommend finding lunch on the lighter side, as the town is also home to renowned creameries — as Point Reyes is one of the many spots along the California Cheese Trail that will lead you back to San Francisco.
