CARTERSVILLE, GA – Savoy Automobile Museum announcde the opening of two new temporary exhibits, Movie Cars and Rad Cars of Savoy.

‘Movie Cars’ exhibit at the Savoy Automobile Museum

Savoy Automobile Museum

Movie Cars, which opened on April 2, is an exhibit showcasing vehicles from box office hits like “Rain Man” and “War of the Roses.” While movies tend to feature an animal, creature, or human as the star, cinema is full of iconic cars that have somehow managed to steal the spotlight away from the main characters, whether it’s because they are integral to the story, featured in the best scenes, or because they’re an important part of a character’s lore. This exhibition showcases the actual cars from the movies with most being the “hero” car. The “hero” car is the main car driven by the principal actor. Automobiles included in this exhibit include:

  • 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T– “Vanishing Point” (On Loan from The Stephens Performance Collection, Anderson, AL)
  • 1963 Buick Riviera “Villa Riviera” – “For Those Who Think Young” (On Loan from Piston Palace Collection, Mr. & Mrs. Jeffery B. Goldstein)
  • 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible – “Rainman” (On Loan from Barry Levinson)
  • 1960 Morgan Plus Four – “War of Roses” (On Loan from Wayne Carini)

  • 1984 Ford LTD Country Squire – Family Truckster – “Vacation” (On Loan from Steve and Lisa Griswold of Canton, GA)

In addition, Rad Cars of Savoy, opened on May 7, 2024. RADwood is an event movement in the automotive hobby world devoted to celebrating the 80s and 90s automotive lifestyle. The RADwood name was coined by co-founder and COO Warren Madsen, and is a take-off on The Goodwood Revival in England, the only historic motor race meeting to be staged entirely in a period theme. It is an immersive celebration of iconic cars and fashion. The term “radical” was adopted by users in the 70s, which meant “at the limits of control”. During the 80s, the term was shortened to “rad” and was used for “cool” or “awesome”. This exhibition showcases vehicles from the Savoy Collection built in the 80s and 90s.

  • 1981 DeLorean DMC-12
  • 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL
  • 1990 Cadillac Allanté
  • 1994 Dodge Viper RT/10
  • 1999 Plymouth Prowler
